Be Cautious Of Slab Leaks
Slab leak repair is a specialized type of plumbing repair. It has recently become increasingly common as more and more houses are built on a concrete “slab” foundation.
In slab building copper water lines are placed under cement. Thus, the pipes can leak due to contact with soil. Leakage leads to many serious problems, including foundation damage and high water and electricity bills. Serious damage can also occur to floors and the entire home.
Copper pinhole leaks are very troublesome as they may go unnoticed by the homeowners because of their location under the slab. Codes mandate that soft and bendable copper be used as joints are not permitted beneath the slab. The copper lines are placed and the ends turn up into the walls where they are joined to lines running to various parts of the house. Usually dents and kinks are formed on copper tubing during home construction, and thus pipes could gain a rough surface on the inside.
The water’s mineral content is a combination of calcium, lime and some iron, which in turn leads to pipe damage. The slightest defect in the pipes can cause pinhole leaks. In such cases you would need to repipe as quickly as possible to avoid the above mentioned problems. Service plumbers locate water and slab leaks, dig out the damaged areas and make copper repiping repairs, preventing damage that pinhole leaks can cause to your home and finances.
