When you think of a house, the four walls, the furniture and the rooms come to mind.

But when you think of a home, you depict in your mind your family members and the love and dreams that encircle your home.

You may wonder what relation there is between lighting fixtures and what I said above. The answer is simple — the fixtures form a certain part of your house whereas the light forms an inseparable part of the atmosphere that stands in your home.

The right choice of home lighting fixtures can give any color to your room. Depending on your character, attitude and ideas you can choose the one which will make your home look romantic, cheery, dark or bright.

There are several different types of lighting fixtures:

Pendant light fixtures – These are also called drops or pendants. They are hung from the ceiling and they are usually attached by a chain or a metal rod. They are made of materials like plastic, metal and glass. Pendant lights drop the light downwards and they are a perfect solution for your dining room and kitchen.

Ceiling fixtures – Ceiling fixtures disperse the light downward and out. They will provide perfect illumination for your bathroom and hallway.

Track lighting fixtures – These home light fixtures provide complete light but for a fixed space in your home. You can adjust them the way you want to get the effect that you need.

Portable light fixtures – Portables are used mainly for general lighting. Among the portables you can find piano lamps or desk lamps.

Sconce light fixtures – Sconce light fixtures are fixed to the wall and they drop the light either upward or downward. Recently they have become very popular especially with young people.

You can buy any of these lighting fixtures from almost every decorative store. Before choosing a particular fixture, you should carefully set its purpose.

You may see a certain fixture and think that it might be perfect for your bedroom. But the possibility is great that the fixture you chose was designed and shaped for bathrooms. To avoid such situations I advise you to take a home decorator with you or someone who is well informed about home lighting fixtures.

At the end I want to add the following — you may not have an expensive or luxurious furniture in your house, but if you purchase the right lighting for your home, believe me, you will give your house a most luxurious and mysterious look.
