A Beautiful Cabinet Refacing Project
Have you ever wondered if a cabinet refacing project was something you could tackle on your own? Perhaps you bought an older home recently, and (like me), you decided that a more contemporary kitchen design was in order. But (like me) you have no real innate skill or knowledge when it comes to carpentry.
So the dream of home ownership has finally become a reality, as has the agonizing chore of deciding what’s next, and now you’re left with a little dilemma. Do I spend the big bucks on that custom cabinetry, or do I choose one of those do it yourself home cabinet refacing products?
Well, rather than drive to the local lumber yard to select that perfect piece of pine, I selected a home cabinet refacing product from Rustoleum. The product is called Cabinet Transformations and comes in two basic color tones, light or dark. After purchasing a color kit, you get to decide from a multitude of choices which wood color you would most like your kitchen cabinets to have. English Cream, River Birch, and Biscotti are just a few examples you have to choose from.
Now I can only imagine what you might be thinking, but it really is a simple step-by-step process. The instructions included with your cabinet refacing project kit by Rustoleum are easy to follow and make for quick start up and finish. But not everything that a person needs is included in the kit.
It is required that a person purchase a few paint brushes (Rustoleum recommends using four), some cleaning rags, drop cloths, tape and disposable gloves (optional). While the paint itself is water based, the deglosser and top coat are oil based and will require the use of acetone or mineral spirits to clean your brushes after use.
There is no sanding required for cabinets that have been finished or painted before, but my cabinets were bare, and I believe it proved beneficial to sand mine lightly before starting.
So my do it yourself home cabinet refacing project was a success I believe, and my wife has voiced her agreement. If your kitchen is of average size, you should be able to complete the entire project in just a couple of days. Choose your colors wisely, and good luck!
