As the number of thefts, robberies and crimes are growing day by day, security systems are becoming more and more widespread nowadays. Today, security systems such as DVRs, hidden cameras, security cameras, and CCTV systems can be found not only in banks and airports, but also in many establishments, including government institutions, schools, shops, restaurants, hotels and even houses.

Like any security camera, CCTV (Closed-circuit television) cameras are used for various purposes: security, safety, technological observance and the like. They were first put into action in Germany in 1942 to observe the flight of V2-rockets. It was designed and installed by Walter Bruch, a German engineer. In 1968 CCTV cameras were used with the intention to decrease the number of crimes. It was installed in Olean, NY, in one of its busiest streets.

Nowadays CCTV systems have become so popular that we can notice them even in our every day life. For instance, announcements reading “Video Surveillance” can be easily noticed in many supermarkets where cameras are used for preventing thefts and robberies. CCTV systems are also used in industrial processes, especially in chemical laboratories. Used in traffic observance, CCTV systems do a great job in organizing safe and harmless traffic.

If you want your security cameras to function effectively, you should take into consideration the quality of the camera, so that the pictures on it are clear enough to distinguish. The choice of the camera also depends on why you want to install the camera. There are different types of CCTV cameras, like night cameras (able to record in dark), outside weatherproof cameras, zoom cameras for recording details and so on. The development of technology gave birth to “talking CCTV systems,” which give the operators an opportunity to talk directly to the suspected.

However, like everything in the world, security cameras and CCTV systems also have disadvantages. There are cases where the use of such cameras is not a necessity at all and it might even limit people’s actions.

Therefore, try to get a CCTV camera only in urgent and essential cases, and make sure it will guarantee your security and protection.
