What To Know About Bedbugs
Bedbugs are known as stubborn pests that are difficult to get rid of. If you suspect that you have bedbugs anywhere in your home, act immediately.
The sooner your home is scheduled for an inspection and, if necessary, a visit from an exterminator to kill bed bugs, the easier it will be to eradicate the problem for good. Here are important points to know about detecting the insects and potential bed bug eradication:
- These insects do not arise due to unsanitary conditions; rather, they usually appear in a home after being carried from another location, such as an office or hotel, in the suitcase or clothing of an unsuspecting transporter.
- The appearance of a bedbug is red, flat, and is about the size and shape of a fingernail.
- These parasites are nocturnal, so it is difficult to see them. Signs of bedbugs most often include rusty-colored streaks on sheets or welts on the arms, legs or neck. Like mosquitoes, they feed on blood.
- They can live without food for up to a year and hide in strange places, such as walls, headboards, carpeting, drapes, furniture, behind wallpaper and even behind electrical outlet plates.
Because these pests hide in numerous places, effective bed bugs treatment requires a multi-faceted approach steam cleaning everything in the home from drapes to clothing, vacuuming and steam cleaning carpet, and throwing out objects that can’t be cleaned.
Anyone who throws out property with bed bugs should mark or deface the property to avoid spreading the problem to anyone wishing to recycle the items.
